Prepare synthetic or licensed data
Replace the starter's synthetic dataset with licensed, consented hiring records and document feature definitions and missingness patterns.
Assess feature importance. Check model behaviour and fairness.
Transparent hiring model evaluation focuses on producing interpretable diagnostics that support fair, auditable decisions. Key activities are building a reproducible baseline, reporting feature importance and stability, checking calibration and group fairness, and creating human-review workflows for disputed or high-risk cases.

Transparent hiring model evaluation focuses on producing interpretable diagnostics that support fair, auditable decisions. Key activities are building a reproducible baseline, reporting feature importance and stability, checking calibration and group fairness, and creating human-review workflows for disputed or high-risk cases.
A proposed use-case is an audit tool for hiring teams: surface which inputs drive a model score and produce examples for human review. The supplied starter does not include real hiring data or workforce-protection workflows and is intended only as a development scaffold.
Replace the starter's synthetic dataset with licensed, consented hiring records and document feature definitions and missingness patterns.
Fit a simple classifier with a fixed random state and hold out a test set stratified by the target to measure generalisation.
Use permutation importance, SHAP or LIME to rank features, and test explanation stability across folds and subgroups.
Create dashboards and human-in-the-loop checks for flagged cases and procedures to remediate fairness gaps before deployment.
The supplied starter generates a synthetic binary classification dataset with sklearn.make_classification, fits a RandomForestClassifier, computes permutation feature importances on the test set, then prints the model accuracy and a small importance table. It does not use any hiring-specific data, labels or domain logic.
X, y = make_classification(n_samples=700, n_features=8, n_informative=5, random_state=42)
columns = [f"feature_{i}" for i in range(X.shape[1])]
X = pd.DataFrame(X, columns=columns)
X_train, X_test, y_train, y_test = train_test_split(X, y, test_size=0.25, random_state=42, stratify=y)
model = RandomForestClassifier(n_estimators=250, random_state=42)
model.fit(X_train, y_train)
The code uses a synthetic dataset from make_classification rather than hiring or HR records, so feature names, sampling biases and labels are not representative. It reports permutation importance and a test score but does not compute calibration, subgroup fairness metrics, counterfactual explanations, or produce human-review outputs required for a production hiring evaluator.
A proposed extension is a hiring-audit pilot that ingests consented application data, computes subgroup performance and calibration metrics, and exposes per-decision explanations for an internal reviewer to accept, annotate or override.
This is a potential application pathway, not a delivered product. The supplied starter does not implement this service or validate it with real users.
