Collect and label data
Record or source video of exercise repetitions and label frames or sequences with the relevant form-error classes and confidence bounds.
Evaluate exercise form from pose. Flag probable form errors.
A pose-based fitness form evaluator uses human pose keypoints extracted from images or video to predict common exercise technique errors (for example knee valgus in squats or low back rounding in deadlifts). Common challenges include reliable pose detection under clothing and occlusion, temporal consistency for repetitions, class imbalance for uncommon errors, and safety considerations when giving corrective feedback.

A proposed application for gyms or personal trainers: highlight likely technique issues in recorded sessions to speed up manual review. Any deployment that affects exercise coaching should keep a qualified human trainer in the loop; the supplied starter does not implement such a system.
Record or source video of exercise repetitions and label frames or sequences with the relevant form-error classes and confidence bounds.
Use a pose estimator (MediaPipe, OpenPose) to convert frames into keypoint arrays and normalise for scale and orientation.
Train a temporal or per-frame classifier on pose features, measure per-class precision/recall and monitor false negatives for safety-critical errors.
Expose predictions with supporting frames and confidence so a human trainer can verify and correct outputs before user-facing feedback.
The supplied starter does not implement pose extraction or exercise evaluation. It loads the sklearn digits dataset, splits it, fits a RandomForestClassifier on digit features, prints a classification report and shows a confusion matrix for digit labels.

model = RandomForestClassifier(n_estimators=300, random_state=42)
model.fit(X_train, y_train)The starter trains a RandomForest on the sklearn digits dataset (handwritten digit images represented as flattened features). It does not extract human pose keypoints, does not use video or exercise images, and therefore cannot validate any pose-based fitness evaluation claims. Results on digits are unrelated to the titled task and cannot be used to infer fitness form performance.
A proposed extension: build a pilot that extracts 2D keypoints with MediaPipe, aggregates temporal features per repetition, and trains a lightweight classifier to label common technique errors for a small set of exercises. Provide a trainer review UI that shows the flagged frames and allows correction so labels improve over time.
This is a potential application pathway, not a delivered product. The supplied starter does not implement this service or validate it with real users.
