Define the control task
Specify the plant model, setpoints and failure modes; choose metrics such as IAE, overshoot and settling time that reflect operational cost.
Tune PID controller. Assess controller performance.
PID tuning adjusts proportional, integral and derivative gains to meet tracking and stability requirements for a plant. Common issues are noise amplification, integral wind-up, oscillation and sensitivity to unmodelled dynamics; a simulator helps measure settling time, overshoot and steady-state error before hardware tests.

A proposed application is a simulator to help robotics students and engineers estimate safe PID gains for a mobile robot or joint actuator. Any deployment to hardware should keep a human operator in the loop and use conservative safety limits; this project does not provide a certified control system.
Specify the plant model, setpoints and failure modes; choose metrics such as IAE, overshoot and settling time that reflect operational cost.
Implement a kinematic or physics-based model (PyBullet or a discrete transfer function) returning sensor output for given actuator commands.
Run sweeps or automated optimisation (grid search, Bayesian) in simulation, log trajectories and compute the chosen metrics for each gain set.
Inspect failure cases in simulation, add safety checks (saturations, rate limits, watchdogs) and prepare a staged hardware test with human oversight.
The supplied starter implements a simple grid-based path planner using a priority frontier and Manhattan heuristic (A*-like search) on a 4x5 ASCII grid. It finds a collision-free path from S to G, reconstructs that path, and prints it with its length. There is no PID controller, no plant model, no simulation of dynamics and no tuning routine in the code.
while frontier:
_, current = heapq.heappop(frontier)
if current == goal:
break
for nxt in neighbors(current):
new_cost = cost_so_far[current] + 1The starter is a path-planning example on a tiny static grid and does not implement any PID algorithm, plant simulation, gain search or evaluation metrics for control. It therefore cannot be used to validate PID tuning ideas without substantial rework and replacement of the core logic.
A proposed extension is a simulation loop that models a plant (transfer function or physics engine), applies control inputs from a PID block, sweeps or optimises gains, and reports metrics such as IAE, overshoot and settling time for each candidate.
This is a potential application pathway, not a delivered product. The supplied starter does not implement this service or validate it with real users.
