Define the search task
Decide what queries must be supported (exact match, wildcard, range, boolean) and what leakage is acceptable to stakeholders.
Encrypted search over data. Manage privacy trade-offs.
Encrypted search lets authorised users query data without exposing plaintext to the service operator. Typical approaches use searchable encryption, secure enclaves, or cryptographic primitives that trade query expressiveness for privacy. Key challenges include query leakage, indexing under encryption, query performance and auditability.
Learning concept · Not a validated service
Encrypted search lets authorised users query data without exposing plaintext to the service operator. Typical approaches use searchable encryption, secure enclaves, or cryptographic primitives that trade query expressiveness for privacy. Key challenges include query leakage, indexing under encryption, query performance and auditability.
A proposed application: let an analyst search encrypted logs for policy-relevant events while the underlying service cannot read users' raw entries. Any deployment must keep a human in the loop for high-risk alerts and is not suitable for replacing legal or forensic review without thorough validation.
Decide what queries must be supported (exact match, wildcard, range, boolean) and what leakage is acceptable to stakeholders.
Select an approach such as deterministic searchable encryption, order-preserving encryption for ranges, or secure enclave indexing depending on functionality and threat model.
Start with synthetic or redacted data to implement encrypted indexing and query execution, and measure query latency and false-positive rates.
Measure query accuracy, index size and leakage channels, and run adversarial tests to understand what an attacker can infer.
The supplied starter generates synthetic numeric "logs" (normal and suspicious rows), fits an IsolationForest anomaly detector, labels rows as anomalies, and prints alerts. It does not implement encrypted search, searchable encryption, secure indexing, or any cryptographic protocol.
logs = pd.concat([normal, suspicious], ignore_index=True)
detector = IsolationForest(contamination=0.05, random_state=42)
logs["anomaly_score"] = detector.fit_predict(logs)
alerts = logs[logs["anomaly_score"] == -1]
The code simulates numeric security logs and runs an IsolationForest anomaly detector. It contains no encryption, no query/indexing logic, and therefore does not validate encrypted-search functionality, privacy leakage, or encrypted-query accuracy.
Proposed extension: replace the synthetic data with redacted real logs, implement a searchable-encryption scheme (for example deterministic or SSE for keywords), and add an API that accepts encrypted queries and returns encrypted result identifiers for client-side decryption.
This is a potential application pathway, not a delivered product. The supplied starter does not implement this service or validate it with real users.
