Prepare the data
Collect OHLCV time-series per asset, create aligned timestamps, compute returns, and build lagged and indicator features without leaking future data.
Predict short-term price movement. Account for market risk.
Predicting short-term cryptocurrency price movements uses historical price and volume data to create lagged features, technical indicators and labels such as next-period return sign. Key issues include non-stationarity, look-ahead leakage, differing liquidity across assets and heavy-tailed returns that invalidate standard error assumptions.

Predicting short-term cryptocurrency price movements uses historical price and volume data to create lagged features, technical indicators and labels such as next-period return sign. Key issues include non-stationarity, look-ahead leakage, differing liquidity across assets and heavy-tailed returns that invalidate standard error assumptions.
A proposed application: provide a watchlist signal panel that ranks assets by predicted short-term upside probability for traders to review. A human reviewer should remain in charge of any actions; this prototype is not for real trading, investing or other financial decisions.
Collect OHLCV time-series per asset, create aligned timestamps, compute returns, and build lagged and indicator features without leaking future data.
Train a reproducible baseline such as logistic regression or random forest on lagged features and avoid shuffling time when splitting (use walk-forward validation).
Use metrics aligned with the decision: classification F1 for directional signals, return-based metrics like Sharpe and maximum drawdown on simulated trades, and inspect performance across market regimes.
Wrap the model in an API or dashboard, add feature and label-drift monitoring, and implement rollback thresholds and human review for live signals.
The supplied starter generates a synthetic classification dataset with sklearn.make_classification, creates a pandas DataFrame of 10 numeric features and a binary target, trains a Pipeline that scales features and fits a RandomForestClassifier, then prints a classification report. It does not load price time-series, compute lagged returns or use any cryptocurrency data.
model = Pipeline(
steps=[
("scale", StandardScaler()),
("classifier", RandomForestClassifier(n_estimators=250, random_state=RANDOM_STATE)),
]
)
model.fit(X_train, y_train)
predictions = model.predict(X_test)The starter uses a synthetic IID classification dataset, not historical price time-series or market features; it therefore does not demonstrate time-series splitting, lagged feature engineering, or trading-relevant evaluation and cannot validate cryptocurrency price prediction claims.
A proposed extension: replace the synthetic data with historical OHLCV for selected coins, add lagged returns and technical indicators, train using walk-forward validation, and display top-ranked signals in a reviewable watchlist for traders.
This is a potential application pathway, not a delivered product. The supplied starter does not implement this service or validate it with real users.
