Collect and label traces
Gather agent traces or conversation snippets and label items to retain or forget, including the source, timestamp and task outcome for each item.
Manage agent memory. Decide which memories to keep.
Agent memory management decides which past observations, messages or state fragments an autonomous agent should retain for future decisions. Key challenges include stale or redundant memories, privacy of stored traces, and the cost of retrieval versus the value of keeping context.

Agent memory management decides which past observations, messages or state fragments an autonomous agent should retain for future decisions. Key challenges include stale or redundant memories, privacy of stored traces, and the cost of retrieval versus the value of keeping context.
A proposed application: reduce an agent's context size to speed reasoning while retaining memories that improve task success. In production a human reviewer or policy must remain able to override automated forget/retain decisions and to audit retained traces.
Gather agent traces or conversation snippets and label items to retain or forget, including the source, timestamp and task outcome for each item.
Create features such as recency, similarity to recent context, frequency and outcome impact; include privacy-sensitive flags where required.
Train a simple binary classifier (retain vs forget) with cross-validation and measure precision, recall and cost-per-decision.
Simulate retrieval latency and memory size limits; measure task success rate with and without automated forgetting and inspect failure cases.
The supplied starter creates a synthetic classification dataset with sklearn.make_classification, builds a Pipeline with StandardScaler and RandomForestClassifier, fits it, and prints a sklearn classification report. It does not use agent traces, timestamps, similarity calculations or any memory-management logic.
model = Pipeline(
steps=[
("scale", StandardScaler()),
("classifier", RandomForestClassifier(n_estimators=250, random_state=RANDOM_STATE)),
]
)
model.fit(X_train, y_train)
predictions = model.predict(X_test)The starter uses randomly generated feature vectors (make_classification) rather than agent traces or labelled retain/forget decisions, so it cannot validate agent memory management behaviours. There is no temporal, similarity or privacy-aware feature engineering and no integration with an agent or vector database; the code only demonstrates a generic classification pipeline on synthetic data.
A proposed extension: replace the synthetic data with a labelled corpus of agent traces (timestamped messages, observations and outcome tags), train a retain/forget classifier, and surface candidate memories in a review UI so engineers can correct decisions before automated pruning.
This is a potential application pathway, not a delivered product. The supplied starter does not implement this service or validate it with real users.
