Basic English course

The purpose of this course is to equip learners with a fundamental understanding of grammar, techniques to enhance pronunciation, enunciation, articulation, syntax and the appropriate usage of the “parts of speech”.

This will empower them with an aptitude for syntactical appropriateness, alongside improving their pronunciation, comprehension and the ability to articulate fluently, their thoughts in English.

Week 01

Day 01 Fundamentals of grammar and pronunciation. Understanding the parts of speech and the function of each. Pronunciation nuances and identifying them by their function. (every day activity through the duration of the course)
Day 02 Verb and verb tenses – detailed use of verbs in their various participles.
Day 03 Verbs in their various participles – continued. Intro. To the significance of a wide vocabulary. (on-going through the duration of the course)
Day 04 Nouns, pronouns and adjectives – in detail. With specific exercises on each.
Day 05 Nouns, pronouns and adjectives – in detail. With specific exercises on each.

Week 02

Day 06 Prepositions, their function and appropriate usage.
Day 07 Prepositions continued – sentence building activity.
Day 08 Adverbs – their appropriate usage and sentence building.
Day 09 Conjunctions, interjections, and punctuation – their function and appropriate usage.
Day 10 Short passage writing – focus on sentence structure. Sentence building activity with group forming a sentence of paragraph.

Week 03

Day 11 Short passage reading – focus on pronunciation. Active/passive voice activity and comprehension.
Day 12 Reading and comprehension activity – aimed also at pronunciation and vocabulary enhancement.
Subject verb agreement – Its significance in presenting yourself appropriately.
Day 13 Passage writing – focusing on sentence structure, (syntax) and vocabulary. Creative writing. Reinforcing, improved vocabulary and appropriate sentence structure.
Day 14 Essay writing – aimed at improving thought flow, vocabulary and sentence structure.
Day 15 Mid-course assessment. To assess learning thus far, and emphasize on areas of opportunity through the remainder of the course.

Week 04

Day 16 Reinforcing learning.  Easy to average reading and comprehension activity. Reinforcing, sentence structure, pronunciation, and comprehension.
Day 17 Prepared speech activity.
Day 18 Email writing – do’s and don’ts.
Day 19 Creative writing. Reinforcing, improved vocabulary and appropriate sentence structure.
Day 20 General grammar test.  Discussion to improve in areas of opportunity.

Week 05

Day 21 Creative writing. Reinforcing, improved vocabulary and appropriate sentence structure.
Day 22 Free speech activity – easy topics – focuses on vocabulary and sentence structure.
Day 23 Free speech activity – topics revolving around situation interviews. Discussion to bring home areas of opportunity.
Day 24 PAA (personal aptitude assessment) based on learning thus far. Written activity. Trainer imparts feedback in general.
Day 25 General grammar aptitude assessment.  Aimed at bringing home areas of opportunity to focus on for each individual.

Week 06

Day 26 Free speech activity – Story building activity – group activity. Focus: sentence structure and vocabulary.
Day 27 Reinforcing grammar activity. Vocabulary activity: words from individuals to make grammatically correct sentences.
Day 28 Free speech activity – Story building activity – group activity. Focus: sentence structure and vocabulary.
Day 29 Reinforcing grammar activity. Vocabulary activity: words from individuals to make grammatically correct sentences.
Day 30 Free speech activity – topics revolving around situation interviews. Discussion to bring home areas of opportunity.
