What is CCIE?
CCIE [Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert] is the highest level of expertise certification available in the field of Computer Networking and Internet. Offered by Cisco systems, world’s largest Networking Equipment Manufacturer in the world, this is the highest level of expertise available. Also known as Doctorate in Networking, this certification requires 3 hours written exam followed by a laboratory exam of 8 hours. The CCIE is widely regarded as having one of the toughest, most demanding exams. It includes both a written exam and a day-long lab exam. This certification is aimed at senior level networking professionals who design, build, implement, maintain, or troubleshoot complex enterprise networking infrastructures
Lab exam is only available in selected locations around the world. As of today CCIE exam of Routing & Switching and CCIE Security is available in Bangalore while for other certifications like CCIE Wireless, CCIE Voice or CCIE Service provider, one has to travel to Europe or USA.
CCIE has been considered the most difficult certification in the IT industry since its launch in 1993. It has two parts: written exam and practical lab test. The CCIE is offered in six tracks: Routing and Switching; Security; Service Provider; Storage Networking, Wireless; and Voice. The most popular track is Routing and Switching. ‘Over the life of the program, the overall pass rate has usually been 26%,’ says Mike Reid, senior manager of CCIE Programs for Cisco, which won't reveal the pass rate for last year. We target the material at an expert level. The pass rate is secondary.
